Cardboard edge protectors: robust pallet protection for transport and storage

Pallet straps cut into corners. Boxes get crushed. Products arrive damaged. A cardboard edge protector costs very little and completely prevents this problem.

A damaged pallet is costly: in time, material, and trust

You have packed the pallet well. Stretch wrap applied, pallet straps tight. And yet, boxes arrive damaged. The corners are crushed, the top layer has collapsed, or the contents have sustained damage because the pallet shifted during transport.

In most cases, the cause is the same: all tension is concentrated on the four corners of the pallet. Without protection, this cuts into the cardboard, and into your reputation with the customer.

How edge protectors solve that problem

A cardboard edge protector is an L-shaped profile made of layered pressed cardboard. You place four of them on the corners of your pallet before applying the stretch wrap. The profile distributes the compression force over a much larger surface area — ensuring that pressure is no longer concentrated in one spot.

The result: boxes remain intact, the stack stays straight, and the pallet arrives at the customer exactly as it left the warehouse.

Cardboard edge protectors or plastic — which is the better choice?

Plastic edge protectors are reusable but heavier, more expensive per unit, and more difficult to recycle. They can be interesting for small volumes and return logistics.

For most industrial applications, cardboard edge protectors are the smarter choice:

  • Lighter: Less weight per pallet, lower transport costs for large volumes
  • Cheaper at volume: The unit price drops rapidly with larger quantities
  • Recyclable: Simply dispose of with cardboard waste — no separate collection system required
  • Sufficiently strong: For standard pallets and transport conditions, cardboard offers the same protection

The right thickness for your pallet weight

Not every pallet is the same. A pallet with light consumer goods requires a different profile than an industrial pallet with heavy items. We advise on the right combination of wing width, thickness, and length based on your situation.

Wing width

Standard from 35×35 mm (light use) to 100×100 mm (wide pallets and heavy loads). Customization on request.

Thickness

From 2 mm for light products and shorter transports to 7 mm for heavy industrial use or international shipments with multiple transshipment points.

Length

Standard 1,000 mm and 2,200 mm. Can be cut to any desired length. Cutting service included.

Material

Pressed cardboard from recycled fibers. Light, strong, and 100% recyclable as waste paper. FSC-certified on request.

Moisture-resistant

Also available in white cardboard with PE coating for optimal moisture resistance.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, provided you choose the correct thickness. A 5 or 7 mm profile carries significantly more than a standard 2 mm profile. We advise on the correct specifications based on your pallet weight and transport conditions — so you don’t pay for more than necessary, but also don’t cut corners in the wrong place.
Plastic profiles are reusable and suitable for applications where return logistics are possible. Cardboard profiles are lighter, cheaper for large volumes, and immediately recyclable. For one-way transport or high volumes, cardboard is the better choice in most cases. In doubt? We can help you compare.
